Dyalog & Zark combine to offer Web-based APL Tutor

Dyalog is pleased to announce that it will be working with Zark Incorporated to build a web-based APL Tutor. Zark, through the Zark APL Tutor and the Zark APL Newsletter, has taught countless APL developers good programming techniques. The founder Gary Bergquist is one of the most respected teachers and consultants in the American APL community.

The team at Zark have embarked on re-implementing the Zark Tutor – translating the teaching materials to Dyalog APL, and moving the Tutor, which currently runs as a Windows computer-based training application in APL+Win, to a Dyalog-based Web server. The intention is that it will become accessible free of charge to anyone who wants to learn APL, and has the technical savvy to start up a Web browser. The Zark Tutor is an interactive system, in which APL learners are encouraged to experiment by entering APL expressions to solve a series of problems – in this case without having to first install an APL system.

"We are extremely pleased that Gary Bergquist and the team at Zark have decided to throw their weight behind Dyalog APL," says Morten Kromberg, Technical Director at Dyalog Ltd. "Gary is passionate about spreading APL and about building tools which help to make the life of APL developers easier. Assisting Zark in this venture allows us to move ahead quickly and produce a new set of interactive educational materials, aimed both at people who are learning APL, and those who are already building applications."
