The 8th annual APL Problem Solving Competition has been launched

Win one of the cash prizes totalling USD 10,500 and a paid trip to attend the Dyalog '16, the annual user meeting, in Glasgow, UK, October 9-13 2016.

For the 8th year running, Dyalog Ltd is delighted to announce that this year's programming contest is now open. We encourage students at all levels to sign up for the challenge and, if you know a student, please make them aware of this wonderful way of learning a truly unique programming language and get a glimpse into the amazing and powerful world of APL. Even if you are not a student, why not give it a go and see if YOU can solve the problems...there is a prize to be had for best non-student solution as well.

As in previous years, the competition is facilitated by Sqore – Studentcompetitions.

Read the rules and enter at http://www.dyalogaplcompetition.com.

The competition is sponsored by Companies and individuals who use APL and run by APL programmers who owe their careers (and a good deal of pleasure) to their work in the language. The aim – and hope – is to encourage and expose student worldwide to the APL language and 'tickle' potential future APL programmers into actively engaging with the APL community and starting to 'learn the ropes'. As the demand for APL programmers increases, it is important to continue to recruit young talent so that companies do not struggle to find qualified candidates for job openings.

Specifically we would like to thank our partners Fiserv, APL Italiana and SimCorp for making this contest possible:

The competition invites student worldwide to put their programming and problem-solving skills to the test by using any APL system to develop solutions to solve a series of problems. This year the categories are:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Finance
  • General Computing

The deadline for submissions is 18th August 2016, and the winners will be announced 30th August 2016.

The three grand prize winners (one in each category) are invited to attend the annual Dyalog User meeting free of charge. The annual user meeting this year takes place in Glasgow, UK (more information). The winners are invited to present their solution and how they arrived at it, as well as talk about their experience with the Dyalog APL language.

We are encouraging all of our readers, users and partner companies to help promote the competition.
