Linux trial copy

Postby daniel on Sun May 02, 2010 11:22 am

Hello,

Why the licence fee for a Linux non commercial copy is much more expensive than Windows? Are there additional functionalities?

Thanks

The official price on the web page is for our current product, which is based on a "Win32 Emulator" called MainWin. The price difference is simply the money that Dyalog has to pay to MainWin for each licence that we distribute. We are working on support for WINE as a replacement for MainWin under Linux and expect to stop producing the MainWin version shortly. Meanwhile, if you can make do with a TTY session we can offer you a version for the same price as Windows. The WINE version should be ready for testing shortly - this month, we hope. Would that be of interest to you? Unfortunately, the WINE version will only be available in a 32-bit Classic (non-Unicode) variant.

Thank you Morten. I would be glad to test the WINE version but my main goal is to do heavy computing simulations (just for fun, I'm retired for a while now).
Will running APL through WINE impact significantly performances?
