Glasgow

Thinking about staying in Glasgow for a few days after the user meeting? If so, there's a lot on offer.

Glasgow was named as one of the top 20 'Best of the World' destinations for 2016 by National Geographic Traveller; the city has also been voted the 'friendliest city in the world' in a Rough Guides poll and named a 'must visit destination' by the New York Times and The Guardian. There are almost 1,800 cafes and restaurants listed for the city on TripAdvisor, and Lonely Planet describes Glasgow as "the best and most eclectic dining city in Europe."

One of beauties of Glasgow is the compact size of its city centre – despite being the largest city in Scotland (and the third largest in the UK after London and Birmingham), you can see a lot of the centre in a remarkably short space of time.

With a history spanning over 1,600 years, it's not surprising that the city is renowned for its remarkable museum offerings, including the stunning Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, which has welcomed over 10 million visitors since a major revamp in 2006 and the Zaha Hadid-designed Riverside Museum, voted 2013 European Museum of the Year.

With over 1,500 shops to choose from, Glasgow is consistently voted as one of the top place to shop in the UK, second only to London's West End!

The Art Nouveau magic of the city’s most famous son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, can be seen across the Glasgow skyline. There are five internationally renowned performing arts companies based in the city, including the National Theatre of Scotland & Scottish Ballet, and many live music venues.

Further afield, ancient castles, picture-postcard distilleries, tranquil lochs, outstanding golf courses and miles of unspoilt coastline are all just a short journey from the city centre.

The official Glasgow website provides further information. The Golden Jubilee Conference Hotel's website also has some suggestions, and they can organise excursions for you (Rabbies Tours was used by some delegates at Dyalog '16 and was highly recommended!).
