DYALOGue - Spring 2012

Welcome to DYALOGue

As I write this column, I am on my way to FinnAPL outside Helsinki in Finland, via Düsseldorf in Germany, and busy preparing my presentation. That's the way that 2012 seems to be – very busy – and I am pleased to offer you a round-up.

Dyalog APL Version 13.1 Highlights

Dyalog APL Version 13.1 for Windows is now commercially available in 32 and 64 bit, Classic and Unicode versions. If you are a DSS+ subscriber or have a licence that entitles you to upgrades, you can download Version 13.1 NOW!

What's New in the APL Tools Group

It is said that "anyone who can write an APL function should be able to host it on the Web." and this is one of the goals of the APL Tools Group. To that end we are pleased to announce the availability of MiServer 2.0.

Introducing TryAPL.org

Many languages have "Try" websites – Haskell has TryHaskell.org, Ruby has TryRuby.org, and so on. In March 2012, Dyalog bought TryAPL.org online and you can now begin to explore APL through your web browser.

APL Programming Contest 2012 Now Open

Now in its fourth year, the Dyalog APL World Wide Programming Contest offers a total of US$12,600 in prize money donated by our corporate sponsors as well as several anonymous individuals and companies. This year we're also running a professional competition with a prize to win.

Dyalog '12 – Call for papers

This year will see us return to LO Skolen in Elsinore, Denmark, for our user conference. This stunning centre offers impressive architecture, a fantastic art collection, lovely food and top notch conference facilities.

Pocket Dyalog

Version 12.1 of Pocket Dyalog has just been released. This new version is fully compliant with most Windows-based PDA/touchscreen phones, bringing even more Dyalog desktop applications within the reach of your PDA.

Unregistered Version of Dyalog APL

In response to popular demand, you can now download an unregistered version of Dyalog APL. So if you just want a quick way of perusing the world of Dyalog APL and do not want to provide us with your details initially, you should read this.

Dyalog '11 Conference – Videos now available

If you didn't manage to join us at Dyalog '11 in Boston in the autumn, or if you would like to refresh your experience from the Conference or re-visit a particular session, why not check out the video recordings that are now available for downloading or streaming.

Dyalog on the Road

As you know, Dyalog is keen to continue to expand the community of Dyalog software programmers and attract new audiences to the power of APL. This includes taking advantage of opportunities to present the work we're doing around the globe throughout the year.
